The First Noel
can be dated back to the 18th Century England, but is probably older
as "Noel" is a French meaning Christmas.
As the song is
today, it was first published in "Carols Ancient and Modern 1823) and has
a Cornish roots.
The lyrics are a
vivid narrative of the birth of Jesus.
